Community Involvement

Blessed as we are with the amazing pets and owners that trust us with providing veterinary care services, Highway Veterinary Hospital feels duty-bound to give back to the community.

We work extensively with groups and officials from Bowie, Prince George's County, and beyond. We currently provide discounted services to roughly 45-50 dogs of various organizations, including:

  • Police Special Operations K9 Unit
  • Department of Corrections
  • Local Fire Departments
  • Local Emergency Medical Services
  • Guiding Eyes for the Blind (Sponsors three local dogs a year)

Prince George's County Specialized Operations K9 Unit

We are the official veterinary hospital for this elite team of police dogs and their uniformed handlers. Knowing our standards for excellence and communication, the officers of the K9 Unit reached out to our clinic and requested we become the designated veterinary care provider for this very special class of working dogs.

The nature of their jobs requires them to remain in peak physical and mental condition. They train daily to be prepared to pursue a suspect or protect their handler's lives. The police officers and Highway Vet health care team work together to meet the specific health care needs of these highly-trained working dogs.

Partnering with respected police officers and caring for these special dogs is truly a highlight of our work as animal health professionals. We are so grateful for the opportunity to treat these distinguished canines and they inspire us to bring our personal best to every workday. Highway Veterinary Hospital is proud to call the canines and officers of Prince George's County Specialized Operations K9 Unit our family.
